Cooperative Education Program

Employer Referral

Employer referral to the Co-op Office is crucial to the success of the Co-op Program. All employers must be fully recognized as Program participants. The process for employer recognition entails the following:

  1. The Associate Director of the Career Services Office will
discuss the Cooperative Education Agreement, which is the binding
document between the employer and the University.
The Director of Career Services is the university representative charged with signing the agreement.
  2. The employer must provide a position description for each co-op assignment available.
  3. Whenever possible, positions should be announced through the Co-op Office in order to provide all qualified students an equal opportunity to apply.
  4. All students identified for co-op (whether new or returning students) must be properly enrolled into the program before going on assignment. This process is very important as all students will be reported to the Registrar’s Office for Co-op coding. This code will identify students on co-op workphase or schoolphase and impacts student enrollment figures in the census.
